“I wanted to be a physician from a young age, and I was especially interested in performing surgery. Since childhood, I have always enjoyed fixing and improving things.”
She stays active outside of the OR.
“When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me surfing, snowboarding or hiking with friends and family.”
She daydreams about working on a vineyard.
“If I could trade careers with anyone in the world, it would be with someone who grows grapes. I took an introduction to viticulture course during my undergraduate education. I found the science behind grape and vineyard cultivation fascinating. I would enjoy working with my hands outdoors, and there is a melding of art and science just like in surgery.”
Take her back to the land of the kiwis.
“My favorite travel destination is New Zealand. I recently had an amazing trip there and would love to visit again. I am always happy when I get to travel to beautiful outdoor destinations and spend time in nature.”
The medical breakthrough she hopes to see become a reality.
“I am optimistic that we will develop more advanced strategies for facial nerve regeneration in my lifetime. We currently have many options to help patients with paralysis to the face, but there is a lot of room for growth in this area.”
She loves the challenge of academic medicine.
“I chose to practice at an academic medical center because I love the team approach and the teaching. I appreciate that in this environment, we’re challenged to always be at the forefront of the latest and most innovative techniques which allow us to provide the most advanced treatments for our patients.”
